much better day

after yesterday's fiasco...papers did not arrive at depot 6 until 3:30am = late start = late delivery = many irate cusromers. People will tolerate most things except when their daily paper does not arrive. Most people like to read the morning news with their coffee, before they go off to work, school, or wherever they go after their morning fill of caffiene and news.

Today went much smoother. Papers arrived on time and I hit the street running by 4:00am. All 211 papers delivered by 7:00am

Read Psalm 61 in my morning devotions today;

Psalm 61 (NIV)

For the director of music. With stringed instruments. Of David.

1 Hear my cry, O God;
listen to my prayer.
2 From the ends of the earth I call to you,

I call as my heart grows faint;
lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
3 For you have been my refuge,

a strong tower against the foe.
4 I long to dwell in your tent forever

and take refuge in the shelter of your wings. Selah
5 For you have heard my vows, O God;

you have given me the heritage of those who fear your name.
6 Increase the days of the king's life,

his years for many generations.
7 May he be enthroned in God's presence forever;

appoint your love and faithfulness to protect him.
8 Then will I ever sing praise to your name

and fulfill my vows day after day.

Dear Times Union and/or Troy Record Customers’

My name is Dave Lewis, I am your new paper carrier. That’s right…a 45 (soon to be 46) year old paperboy. I hear from the experts in this field that the days of youth carriers are pretty much over.

I started this route just a week or so ago. I am gradually getting the hang of it, learning the route, finding house numbers in the dark (not as easy as I thought it would be), learning where to and not step (slippery ice, dog doo doo) etc. In just a few short weeks I should have this paper route under control and, for the most part, your morning paper will be on time and in presentable condition . If you do not receive a paper (if I missed you) please give me a call: 526-6079, this is my cell phone, which is on and with me while I am delivering papers .

Please understand there are some things that are out of my control
1.Weather conditions; especially winter snow storms. I have to drive to deliver your paper, so snow storms mean hazardous road conditions plus slower drive time. I will get all papers delivered and will do my best to get your paper to you as early as possible.
2.Press and other delays on the part of Newspaper companies. Sometimes they arrive to depot late, which means I will be late processing and delivering papers. Late getting out of depot = heavier traffic, school buses, children walking to school, etc.
3.Road work, snow removal or fire/emergency delays and or detours. A few times already I have had to wait to deliver on certain streets, or park my vehicle and hand deliver due to streets being blocked by city, fire, police or other work vehicles.

Move over junior, big boys in SUVs are taking over

That's right, I'm a 45 (soon to be 46) year old paperboy. The days of kids on bikes, tossing papers is just about over. So, if you see me in the wee hours of the morning, in the North Troy, NY neighborhood, in my black SUV, lights flashing, weaving in and out of traffic, I just might be delivering yout paper. Give me a honk
